Information About The Radiator And its Malfunctions

The radiator is known as that copper cabinet located in the front of the car, which works to cool the engine of the car and thus reduce its temperature. We present it in the following article through an Go Automotive.

Among the names by which it is known that come from its working system is (the cooling system), where it cools the engine and its parts, and its presence and importance is not limited only to cars, but also to trains, motorcycles, and airplanes, and it does its job by running what’s called coolant through them. The internal parts of the engine transfer heat according to the principle of heat exchange and then return to the radiator to extract this heat.

Redter

It is also known as a radiator, and despite what appears to be that it works by emitting radiation, the vast majority of its energy is emitted by convection, and it was invented by the Russian businessman ( Franz San Galli), and it works in more than one way depending on its type, including that it works by lifting the lid to supply water and another that is supplied with water from the side tank.

Reasons why water from the radiator evaporates

The reasons for the lack of water and its evaporation are multiple, we present the main ones of these reasons in the following points:

  • The thermostat has a problem or malfunction, it is the part that regulates the temperature of the water after it enters the radiator, which leads to water shortage, so in case of water loss, the thermostat must be checked first.
  • There is a problem with the radiator hoses or tubes, which are made of materials resistant to low or high temperatures, and a hole or malfunction is detected using green water (coolant).
  • An air leak in the cooling system leads to water loss and through technical examination this can be easily confirmed.
  • The reason for the lack of water is due to a leak in the radiator itself, and in this case it must be completely changed to prevent the engine from malfunctioning and damaging itself.

The reason for the lack of water from the radiator without smuggling

We have already mentioned that the lack of water in the cooling system can be the result of the presence of water leaking through it due to a malfunction in it, but there are other reasons for which the lack of water occurs without the presence of leakage, which we present as follows:

  • The presence of a hole or cut in the radiator cap that causes water to evaporate.
  • Using the radiator for a long time, resulting in damage and mixing of water and engine oil.
  • Using the air conditioner for long periods of time, especially in summer and winter, because the air conditioner consumes a large amount of water and therefore the water in the cooling system runs out.
  • The fan in the front of the car that cools the car is damaged.
  • There is a reason that happens rarely, but if it does, the cooling system is weak, damaged and lacks water, and that is the failure of the water pump near the car engine.

How do I know if the radiator is faulty?

There are some methods that can be applied to ensure that the water in the radiator is deficient or not, we explain them as follows:

  • Permanent inspection of the water level in the external water tank of the cooling system, since the amount of water in the plastic tank refers to the amount of water required according to what is indicated on the outside on the tank, and in the event that it is lower than the presumed mark, the water should be filled up to this mark.
  • After making sure the engine is cold, one opens its metal cover and looks at the tank nozzle to make sure the water is close to an inch, which is a sign of the radiator’s safety, and in case the water is less than one inch, water from the radiator should be poured into this nozzle until the inch is full.

When opening the metal cover, the color of the water is noticed and if it becomes transparent or brown, it is replaced with new water. There is a substance added to the radiator water which is effective to protect it and keep it intact for a longer period of time, which is coolant, which is a substance added to water to reduce the freezing point. Protect it from damage.
